The Kelly Fund For Lupus, Inc. is dedicated towards raising funds that provide research for a cure and increase community awareness of lupus.
The Kelly Fund for Lupus Inc. was founded in May 2008 by Brenda Blackmon. Her daughter, Kelly, was diagnosed with lupus and vowed after her life threatening recovery to make a difference in combating this disease.
Lupus is a chronic inflammatory disease that can affect various parts of the body, especially the skin, joints, blood and kidneys.
Much of the money raised by the Kelly Fund goes to the Alliance for Lupus Research and in other ways by promoting awareness and understanding of the disease.
“Lupus is three times more common among African American Women…and more common in women of Hispanic, Asian and Native American Descent.”
